Brief
We were asked to upgrade the existing disabled toilet facilities which were deemed not fit for purpose for a pupil at the school.
The combined toilet and physiotherapy room needed to include a wheeled toilet chair with supporting ceiling track hoist, and physiotherapy table area. Our brief also required us to carry out structural repairs to a corner of the school building and replace external steps. These areas needed to be improved due to a drainage issue.

Scope
In order to accommodate accessible shower facilities, we needed to demolish some of the existing partitions and install new ones.
This included new floor and ceiling finishes, and associated mechanical and electrical works.
Close collaboration with a Physiotherapist, the Contractor, and Headteacher ensured the space was DDA compliant and met the pupil’s specific requirements.
Site surveys and engagement with Building Control allowed us to develop the proposed layouts in line with the requirements of the school and the tight site. The scope of works evolved over time, for example the additional requirement of asbestos removal once found on site. All of the works were conducted on a live school site with noise levels kept to a minimum to prevent disruption to teaching.
