Trainee Architectural Assistant Completes Project at London South Bank University

Ollie L showcasing his project at London South Bank University

We are pleased to share that Trainee Architectural Assistant Oliver Langner has recently completed his semester one project in the final year of the degree apprenticeship at London South Bank University.

Our apprentices and trainees play a pivotal role in helping our Group grow, so we caught up with Oliver about the project. He said, “I am really pleased with the outcome of my first-semester design project. The project brief was to create a sustainable temporary structure, reuse materials from the existing site, and create a vibrant education space.

The project ‘Restoring Memories’ aims to connect university students with their loved ones through education and restoration workshops that allow families to restore their treasured items and relive associated memories. The spaces are designed to accommodate Montessori methods of education and dementia care, enabling families to connect and grow.

The spaces were created by studying people’s interactions with the site by analysing their journeys through and around it, like synapses and neurons. As you move through the site, memories strengthen, and the buildings become more connected and interlinked to reflect this growth. The redeveloped site offers a learning hub, various workshops, and a memory vault using recycled materials found on the existing site.

This project has been very enjoyable, and I look forward to further expanding my knowledge and skills.”

Ioana Petkova, Oliver’s design studio tutor at London South Bank University, said, “Throughout his academic work, Oliver has shown great dedication, thoughtfulness and creativity, often developing the work independently. He is willing to move outside of his comfort zone, and his enthusiasm, positive response to feedback, and continuous improvement make me confident in Oliver’s successful completion of the course and progression to a Part 2 degree.”

Congratulations to Oliver for his project and incredible tutor feedback. We are so excited to follow his journey into the final semester of his degree.
