Martlesham Primary Academy celebrates completion of major expansion works

Children and pupils celebrating completion with ribbon cutting

Martlesham Primary Academy, part of REAch2 Academy Trust, is celebrating the completion of a significant redevelopment, transforming key areas of the school to enhance the learning environment for pupils.

The £750k project, funded by Suffolk County Council, delivers a range of improvements to the school, including a new classroom block with a brand-new year 6 classroom, cloakroom, toilet facilities and plant room. In addition, the school now has a brand-new SEN classroom, with another classroom being redecorated, and girls and boys toilets being upgraded. New and improved drainage systems have also been installed under the new building.

Emma Churchman, Headteacher of Martlesham Primary Academy said: “This project marks a huge milestone for Martlesham Primary Academy, ensuring we can provide the very best facilities for our children. Martlesham Primary may be a small school, but we are a vibrant place buzzing with positivity and possibility – our new learning spaces are already making a real difference to both the children and staff and it’s been brilliant to see how positively they are responding to our new-look school”.

Cathie Paine, CEO of REAch2 Academy Trust said: “We are thrilled to see this investment come to life. This is a great example of how strong partnerships can deliver real benefits for schools and their communities. Martlesham Primary School is already a great school, and I’m excited to see them go from strength to strength in these fantastic new facilities”.

The improvements were made possible through the collaboration of REAch2 Academy Trust, Suffolk County Council, property management and design consultants, Concertus and main contractor Seamans Building. Despite the challenges of working on an active school site, the team successfully completed the redevelopment with minimal disruption to children’s learning.

Charles Coulson, Associate Director at Concertus, said: “The new expansion is a fantastic asset to the children and local community. The team worked hard to create a new state-of-the-art learning facility, and we were pleased to see the students enjoying their new classrooms at the official opening”.

The new facilities were officially handed over during the October half-term, providing a more modern, inclusive, and inspiring environment for pupils.
