Colleague Spotlight – Ricki Smith

This month Concertus welcomed Ricki Smith to the business, who joins us as a Clerk of Works. With vast experience in the construction industry across multiple areas and a keen eye for detail, Ricki is relishing the challenge and enjoying the start of his career with Concertus. We recently took some time out to meet him and ask him a few questions about his background and what the future holds.

Tell us a bit about your background

I have worked in construction since leaving school. I started bricklaying, where I have my NVQ Level 1 and 2 and have vast experience working with Groundworks and deep drainage where I earned my supervisor ticket. I also spent a decade working in civil engineering for a construction company in Nottinghamshire, working on projects throughout the Midlands and the North of England. Working across varying parts of construction has allowed me to build my skillset and hone in on what I am passionate about.

What made you join us at Concertus?

I was ready for a new challenge and something different to get stuck into. I have a keen eye for detail, I enjoy being able to look over other people’s work and am always looking for ways on how we can improve on site delivery. It’s why the Clerk of Works role was appealing to me. I like to do things by the book and ensure work is carried out correctly. So, I was keen to join the business, in a new role recently created and make it my own.

How have your first few weeks with the business been and what does the future look like?

I have spent a lot of my time on site, visiting projects such as Bramley Vale and Poolsbrook. I have been acting as eyes and ears for the architects and getting a general feel of how things play out on site, ensuring everything is meeting building regulations in process. When I am in the office, I am putting together a plan of action for how we can maximise the service moving forward. My first few weeks with the business have been productive and I am excited about the future and what we can deliver for clients.
