Derwent Primary School shortlisted for CIAT’s AT Award 2024
We are thrilled to announce that our project at Derwent Primary School is a Finalist for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) AT Awards for Excellence in Architectural Technology, Medium to Large 2024.
This project was one of the first on Central Bedfordshire Council’s ‘Schools for the Future’ programme. It included designing and building a new teaching block for Key Stage 2 pupils, a new library facility, and refurbishing and remodelling existing school structures, all of which helped increase the school’s overall size.
Darren Fellowes, Associate Director for Concertus, said:“We are excited to have our project recognised by CIAT. It was an honour to deliver each element of such a prestigious project, from the expansion of the reception to the delivery of the new teaching block. We look forward to the awards evening next month and celebrating other contributors to architecture and the built environment.”
The design for the new teaching block considered energy and cost efficiency while still ensuring high performance and robustness. We assured the teaching block was modern and echoed characteristics of the existing school buildings but emphasised the dark feature brickwork to provide the building with its flair and visual depth to the facade. The windows and doors are burgundy, matching the colour and branding of the school uniform. The purpose-built school building provides students with state-of-the-art classrooms, a studio, and a SEND room.
The event will recognise the exceptional contribution that Architectural Technology practices and professionals make to the built environment and the outstanding achievements of students studying the discipline.
CIAT’s AT Awards event was held in London in October, showcasing the best architectural technology.
