Concertus Monthly Round Up – May

From project milestones to industry recognition, May was a month of celebration across our projects. We marked significant progress at Stowmarket High School, the start of works at Mildenhall College Academy, and the phase one completion of new pharmacy facilities for the University of Suffolk.

Marigold House was recognised at the Care Home Awards 2026, while our Ipswich esports facilities were shortlisted in prestigious interior design awards. We also shared a new case study for Harpur Hill Primary School, featuring exceptional feedback from the end user. We hope you enjoy this month’s round-up.

Construction Underway to Expand Mildenhall College Academy
We celebrated the start of works to expand Mildenhall College Academy with a groundbreaking event on site. The expansion will provide seven additional classrooms, along with new toilet facilities, dining area, and office spaces on each floor. The design has been carefully developed to integrate seamlessly with the existing school.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Pentaco Construction Ltd for Suffolk County Council to deliver this project. Watch here. You can read more about the project here.

New Nursery Heads Towards Completion
We are pleased to share continued progress on the new early years building at Melton Primary School in Woodbridge. Internally, mechanical and electrical first fix is complete, plastering and decorations are progressing well, and second-fix carpentry is now underway. Externally, the entrance canopy and cycle shelter have been installed.

The state-of-the-art nursery will provide places for up to 30 children, expanding the school’s early years provision within a purpose-built, single-storey facility designed to complement the existing school. With works progressing towards final finishes, commissioning, snagging and handover, we look forward to sharing the completion of this project in due course. It was great to hear from our Project Manager, Matthew Lowe, and from Matthew Bynoe, Construction Director at Seamans Building. Watch here.

Phase One Complete for New Pharmacy Facilities
Works to deliver the University of Suffolk’s new Pharmacy facilities within the James Hehir Building are progressing well on site. Phase one is now complete, providing a suite of staff and administrative spaces, including new meeting rooms, upgraded office areas and breakout spaces, all now fully operational and supporting day-to-day activity.

Work has progressed into phase two, which focuses on creating the first of four new laboratory spaces that will form the core of the Pharmacy provision. The final phases will begin in June, transforming existing laboratory areas into state-of-the-art Pharmacy and Life Science spaces, further enhancing the University’s teaching and research environment. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.

Steel Frame Erected at Stowmarket High School Expansion
We are pleased to share that the expansion of Stowmarket High School is progressing well. Key groundwork milestones have been achieved, including the completion of excavation and foundation concrete works. Excavations for the new drop-off and disabled car park are ongoing, while works to the main car park have commenced.

In the coming weeks, the project will reach a significant milestone as the steel frame begins to reveal the footprint of the new building, alongside works to substructure drainage and masonry, and the construction of the cycle shelter, bin store, and EV charging bays. Delivered alongside Suffolk County Council, Kingfisher Schools Trust, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, and Barnes Construction, the project also includes upgrades to the existing school. Harpur Hill Primary School – New Case Study!
Following the completion of works at Harpur Hill Primary School, it’s fantastic to see the real impact the project has made with such positive feedback from the end user.

Mark Rushworth, Chair of Governors, shared: “Thank you for doing a cracking job on this project. The facility created has added so much to the school. Sometimes people forget the huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes before you ever get to that stage. So, a huge thanks to your team for all the hard work.”

Projects like this are a great reminder that successful delivery goes far beyond what’s visible on site. It’s built on collaboration, careful planning, and the dedication of teams working every step of the way. You can read our new case study here.

CIOB Visit New Lakenheath Primary School
We were pleased to welcome local The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) members and industry professionals to Lakenheath Primary School, Suffolk’s first net-zero-in-design school. Following our collaborative case study event in Norwich, it was a pleasure to showcase the progress being made on site alongside Pentaco Construction Ltd.

During the exclusive visit, attendees experienced the project in action, gaining first-hand insight into the design approach, construction progress, and the innovative features that support Suffolk County Council’s net zero ambitions.

Esports Facilities Shortlisted in Prestigious Interior Design Awards
We shared that our Esports Facility at the University of Suffolk has been shortlisted for a BIID Interior Design Award in the Midlands & East Anglia – Commercial region.

This £1.65m project transformed a long-neglected building into a vibrant, purpose-built hub for the University’s BA (Hons) Esports course, delivering a sustainable refurbishment with innovative design, immersive LED lighting, and a high-quality fit-out in collaboration with Barnes Construction.

Being recognised by the British Institute of Interior Design is a fantastic achievement for the whole team, and we look forward to the awards in October. Read our case study here.

Care Home Awards 2026
We attended the Care Home Awards 2026, where our project, Marigold House Care Home, was shortlisted for Best New Care Home or Retirement Living Development and Best for Architecture or Interior Design. Although we didn’t walk away with a win, we are immensely proud of this project and every detail that our team carefully considered to create a truly supportive and inclusive environment for residents.

Well done to all the winners and shortlisted nominees. It was a fantastic event. You can read our project case study here.
