Concertus Monthly Round Up – April

Concertus April Round Up

In April, we celebrated more than just great weather. We started on-site to create a new £1.65 million Esports facility in Suffolk, made fantastic progress at a new children’s home in Derbyshire, and even shared a new Property Management brochure. We hope you enjoy reading our monthly round-up.

Concertus to deliver first Esports facility in region for University of Suffolk
We have partnered with the University of Suffolk to deliver a brand-new £1.65 million Esports facility on the Ipswich Campus

Works began on site to transform the existing Long Street building into a dynamic space designed to support the new BA (Hons) Esports course, which will launch in September 2025. It will also serve as a hub for the Esports society, offering a space to play, compete, and connect. We are pleased to be working with Barnes Construction to deliver this project. We look forward to sharing more as the project progresses. You can read our case study here and watch the flythrough of the new facilities here.

Clean energy cluster on horizon as work completes on Nexus development
We were thrilled to announce the completion of The Nexus, an innovative commercial development at the heart of Lowestoft’s PowerPark energy hub. This project represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting our client’s sustainability goals.

The Nexus is set to be a flagship for the local area. It features 16 modern business units tailored for offices, with a particular focus on clean energy enterprises. We’re proud of the effective collaboration between our design teams, SEH French Limited, and East Suffolk Council that made this vision a reality. Read more about the project here.

Poolsbrook Primary School – 12 months on

Following a 12-month defects visit, we captured these fantastic drone photos of the new modular classroom at Poolsbrook Primary Academy, in Chesterfield.

With Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding from Chesterfield Borough Council, the new classroom, group room and toilet facilities were undertaken by P McVey Building Systems. This site was one of more than 40 schools across Derbyshire that benefited from Derbyshire County Council’s Capital Programme and we are pleased to see the children enjoying their new facilities a year on.

Progress at Spire Lodge picks up pace
Construction on a new £5 million children’s home began in February with an official groundbreaking ceremony. We captured some impressive drone photos showcasing the progress so far. Spire Lodge will provide tailored support and create a nurturing environment for children and their families. This initiative aligns with the Derbyshire County Council’s commitment to enhancing services for children with special needs and disabilities (SEND).

Piling for the foundations has been completed, and preparations are being made for the ground beams to be poured while work on the car park sub-base is ongoing. We are excited to be part of such a vital project with Stepnell for young people in Derbyshire and look forward to sharing more updates as the building takes shape. Read more about the project here.

Murrayside Community Centre completes
Significant progress was made on the new two-storey expansion at Murrayside Community Centre in Ipswich, ahead of the completion this month. We saw the finishing touches come together, including the completion of floor finishes, mechanical and electrical works, and the laying of paving slabs. We also saw how the new extension is delicately joined to the existing building.

The project’s latest phase includes the introduction of a new spacious classroom with a kitchenette, accessible WC, and a dedicated library area. This new building replaced a dilapidated structure on the same footprint and features a textured external cladding finish.

We are immensely proud to have worked with our client and SEH French Limited to build a brighter future for Ipswich’s youth. We look forward to sharing completed images soon.

Suffolk New College’s Industry Partner Gala Dinner
Over the years, we have taken great pride in our partnership with Suffolk New College, which has continued to grow and strengthen as we support learners interested in careers in construction. We were honoured to be invited to Suffolk New College’s Industry Partner Gala Dinner. It was fantastic to come together and celebrate the students’ success.

We look forward to continuing our support for the learners throughout 2025 and beyond.
