Meet our Business Development Manager – Christine Johns

As Concertus’ first Business Development Manager, Christine Johns joined the team in the summer of 2025, bringing over 30 years of experience in the field to support Concertus’ growth and development.

Can you describe your new role as a Business Development Manager and what you enjoy about it?
I work across the East of England and the East Midlands, collaborating closely with our senior leadership team, particularly our Group Operations Director, Kerry Briggs, and the Bids team. There are so many exciting opportunities coming up for Concertus and my primary focus is growth through sector targeting, service diversification, and expanding our geographical reach. I also support the development of the Suffolk Construction Framework by raising awareness among our wider public sector partners.

I enjoy the variety that my role offers. I still find joy in meeting clients and colleagues, visiting sites, seizing opportunities whenever I can, and building lasting connections.

What skills or experiences from your previous roles do you believe will be most beneficial in your new position as a Business Development Manager at Concertus?
I’ve helped previous employers grow by securing major contracts within the Ministry of Defence and Justice sectors. I have acquired valuable insights from every role that position me well for this role.

What sets my approach apart is authenticity. I don’t just tell partners what they want to hear. I take pride in being efficient, and clients know they can rely on me for clear communication and honest conversations. I have built great relationships with everyone I have worked with, and I plan to leverage those connections, especially in higher education, to support Concertus’ growth in the education sector.

With your prior experience in business development, how do you plan to drive growth for Concertus?
I intend to use my network to uncover opportunities. Curiosity (some may call it nosiness), along with asking questions, is a powerful tool. As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, Concertus brings a wealth of expertise, and I will showcase the value we bring to each new partnership while taking our services into new sectors.

In your opinion, what role does market research play in the business development process?
Market research is crucial for spotting opportunities and shaping our strategy. I track the progress of projects across the UK to understand industry trends, allowing me to identify new opportunities effectively.

What attracted you to the business development position at Concertus, and how do you see yourself contributing to our company culture?
I bring a fresh perspective to the Concertus leadership team. Although I have a mechanical and electrical background, this role is an opportunity to work with new service areas. I am keen to learn from both the leadership team and wider teams across the organisation.

My focus on diversifying sectors will enhance the experience of our team, and embedding social value from the outset will help colleagues recognise the positive impact they have in our communities.

In your experience, what is the most effective way to engage stakeholders and decision-makers during the business development process?
I focus on understanding their priorities and aligning solutions with their long-term objectives. By being personable and maintaining open, honest communication, I build trust and develop relationships that go beyond individual projects.

If a potential client wanted to get in touch with you, what would be the best way to contact you?
The best way to reach me is by telephone on 07594 521688 or by email at Christine.Johns@concertus.co.uk. I am available during standard working hours and welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can work together to deliver exceptional outcomes.
