Concertus Design & Property Consultants Appoints Nick Jakes as Associate Building Surveyor

Concertus Design & Property Consultants is delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Jakes as Associate Building Surveyor. Based in Matlock, Nick brings over 25 years of experience and a diverse project portfolio to his new role, further strengthening Concertus’ presence and operations in the East Midlands and beyond.

Nick, a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), joins Concertus from Gleeds, a global property and construction consultancy. At Gleeds, he led many significant projects, including the laser lab conversion for the University of Oxford, decarbonisation and refurbishment works for Transport for London, and the remodelling of a multi-agency depot for National Highways. He also delivered essential RAAC mitigation at a secondary school in Oxfordshire. These accomplishments reflect his adeptness at managing complex projects across various sectors.

Nick’s career is marked by standout moments, such as leading the design and delivery of a two-classroom extension at a primary school in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire. He also undertook a unique project for Coventry University, assessing the structural suitability of buildings to host seven large inflatable monsters for a Halloween event. This quirky challenge involved evaluating roof loads, conducting pull-tests on handrails for safety, and ensuring Coventry University’s prominent participation in the city’s festive celebrations.

In addition to his extensive project experience, Nick holds a postgraduate diploma in management studies and is currently completing an MBA. He is also certified in the Management of Asbestos in Buildings (P405). His expertise has played a vital role in securing approximately £8 million in funding for various academies through successful CIF bids, demonstrating his commitment to positively impacting the public and educational sectors.
